| Customer Reviews: Beware of Sony Computers January 19, 2010 Christopher G. Nishio I purchased a Sony Vaio and its been are real disappointment. The computer is packed with so much junk programs including Norton and various weird Sony programs that run in the background, slowing the computer down considerably. There are so many programs running in the background, it provides Windows 7 with poor performance. Start-up is slow and starting small programs can take several minutes. I do not recommend Vaio's since Sony has chosen to add every commercial program available. It appears they did not run these programs on their own computers to determine the degraded performance. The programs found were several Norton programs, including the anti-virus program, several Sony programs the made start-up a five minute process with Windows 7, Yahoo and Microsoft messengers, Arc Soft and Windows Live, none of these programs are necessary, but they slow down your computer. Its taken several weeks to remove these programs.
Grea style, size, and price October 4, 2009 B. Buss (California, USA) I just purchased this VAIO at the end of September.
Things I like: Lightweight, and small, but very comfortable keyboard and all around design. The textured surface of the case looks cool and keeps your fingerprints off the cover. This laptop is totally silent, I never hear any fans or hard drive whirring. The laptop does not get hot on the bottom so you can actually put it on your lap. The left palm rest get just a bit warm, overall heat management is one of the best. It has a button that when pressed loads a web browser in about 10 seconds, so you can go from OFF to surfing the web in 10 seconds without booting up the whole Windows operating system. Very convenient for looking up info online, directions, or checking webmail. There is an HDMI connector for sending the screen to your flat screen TV, and since Vista Home Premium has the Media Center, this is a great feature. There is an SD memory card slot, Express Card slot, and 3 USB ports. The keyboard "island keys" are very comfortable. I bought mine at Fry's on sale for $700, much cheaper than all the online prices I've seen. The dedicated ATI video card will be nice if I ever fire up some video games.
What I do not like: My other laptop has a 1920x1200 pixel screen resolution, so it took some time getting used to the 1366x768 screen size of this Sony. I wish the web cam was as high a quality as some of the seperate webcams are out there, but this one works well for video chat, the mic is good too. I wish it had dedicated volume control button near the screen like many laptops do, but this is OK using the Function Key and F2, F3, F4.
